Latest NewsCommuting Options Expand for Employees at “Iron Mountain” in Boyers, Butler County
Until recently, the employees at “Iron Mountain” in Boyers (Butler County) have had no other choice than to drive alone or with co-workers to work. But by working together, the employees, local transit authorities and now CommuteInfo have changed all of that.
“Iron Mountain” is an underground, secure facility which houses several employers. Over 3,000 people travel there to work everyday.
Working with local transit operators, 2 bus routes were started. New Castle Area Transit Authority provides service from New Castle to Boyers twice a day. Butler Transit Authority also provides service from Butler to Boyers twice a day. The ridership on both of these routes has been steadily increasing since they were first introduced.
And for those individuals not able to take advantage of the new transit service, CommuteInfo was asked to help provide carpool and vanpool options. In January the first vanpool group took the “keys” to their new ride to work (see photo, above). Their commute begins each day in Fennelton.
February 1st a second vanpool group rolled out from the Meadville area; and a third group got a “sweetheart” of a deal and had their van delivered on Valentine’s Day. This latest van originates from the Coraopolis/Pittsburgh areas.

Vanpool Appreciation Events
The Vanpool Appreciation Events bring together the vanpool participants in order to update them on the program’s activities, provide a forum to share experiences/learn from each other, and reinforce the importance of their participation in the program.
These events have been so successful that we are working on plans to host them again in May 2008. If you would like to be a part of the planning/advisory committee please contact Meg at 412.391.5590 (337) or MKessler@spcregion.org.
Speaking of Appreciation – here is a testimonial given by a rider about her driver:
I just wanted to take this opportunity to express my thanks to the Driver of my commuter van. It is such a relaxed atmosphere and comfort to have Len Pagnanelli driving. He approaches all situations and riders with courtesy and dignity in whatever situation he is faced with. During these last few trying days of inclement weather it has been such a relief to ride the van with him driving. He is safe and cautious when driving. These qualities with a van full of women should, in my book not go unrecognized. Thank you. Violet O'Shanka, R.N.

VPSI News
Safety Tip - here is a little safety tip from Paul Fancsali of VPSI’s Pittsburgh office. When it comes to tire safety which is a critical factor in your group’s safe ride, you may not think that riding on a low tire is any big deal but recently Paul had to work on a tire that was run too low and was actually riding on the wall of the tire and guess what … it literally exploded! So please do not allow your van’s tires get so low that … well you get the picture. This time of year the front tire pressure should be maintained at 55 psi and the rear at 80 psi (if you can’t remember this just check the door jam). If you have a 9 or 14-passenger van the psi is 41 all the way around.
Results are in! - VPSI Customer Satisfaction Survey Results
CommuteInfo and VPSI would like to thank all primary and alternate van drivers who participated in the VPSI Customer Satisfaction Survey conducted October 19 – 31, 2007.
CommuteInfo contracts with VPSI for vanpool fleet management, vehicle maintenance, emergency service, driver selection, training, invoicing, etc. With any service program periodic customer feedback is important to identify what is working well and what could be improved upon. Here is a brief summary of the survey results.
- 48 primary and alternate vanpool drivers responded to the survey
- All respondents indicated they were likely to continue vanpooling and would refer a friend or business associate
- 96% were satisfied their vanpool experience
- 94% were satisfied with the availability of their VPSI Representative, handling of routine (preventive) maintenance and repairs, and vehicle reliability
- 92% liked the appearance of the vehicle
- 75% were satisfied with features on the van and 69% were satisfied with the comfort of the vehicle. The primary concern was rear heat control. This feedback has been shared with VPSI’s Corporate Office.
- 25% of respondents had previously participated in VPSI’s Maintenance Incentive Program. Contact Paul Fancsali at paul.fancsali@vpsiinc.com for information on how you can earn a $25 gift card in 2008 every time you take your van in for routine preventive maintenance (oil change, tire rotation, windshield wipers, etc.)
Lost and Found
All of you know that routine (well almost routine) the vans are maintained and frequently this requires switching out one for another. In the switching process sometimes things get lost … and found. If you have found things in your van that don’t belong to anyone in your group; or you have had something misplaced, please let Paul know (412.882.6580) so he can be on the lookout for it. Checking with Paul pays off … I recently left my scarf on a loaner van. I called Paul and he tracked it down and mailed it to me. That’s great customer service! Joe Germanoski, University of Pittsburgh.
